You just need to change your perspective, and perhaps polish your skills a little bit. Here are some things which you should bear in mind:
(1) Anyone using any prototype level weapons is losing money on the match that they're playing unless they're particularly lucky that match. Wearing a prototype weapon virtually guarantees that you'll need to be in at least an advanced suit. By this point you're looking at at least 100k ISK of investment per suit. Lose two of those puppies and you're probably out ISK for the entire round. Lose three and you're definitely looking at a loss. And trust me, you will lose 2-3 suits per match.
(2) People who aren't confident in their skill levels right now are running around in the best gear they can buy, up to and including prototype gear. They then alternate rounds between playing in prototype gear and playing in militia/standard/otherwise BPO gear. This is the only way you can manage to draw even in the long run. This is unfortunately not punished at the moment because there's no reason to save ISK when there's nothing on which to spend the ISK.
Taking these two things together, what you can conclude is that many players are making the choice to "force" themselves into ISK-neutral play so that they can enjoy the benefits of padding their stats when in higher level gear. This is working exactly as intended in some sense. In the final product you won't find many people, except those that want to make high sec the focus of their mercenary lives, choosing the type of play we see now. In the end making money will be more important than uselessly padding stats.
Even so, I've found that it's easy to maintain extremely high KDR's with mostly standard level equipment (17k/suit). Call it rightly as a personal anecdote, but I've killed tons of players in advanced and prototype gear because many times players with that stuff on are overconfident and in some cases just aren't quite as quick on their feet. It's more than achievable- it's easy, and you can make a lot of ISK this way. Instead of crying on the forums, you should take some time to find strategies that work against players in better gear than you have. You'd be surprised in that most of the time you can at the very least escape a bad engagement, if not outright win most.
The skill point cap is a bit poorly implemented at the moment, but the actual power of the gear when balanced out with cost? Yeah, that seems to be working as intended. Incidentally, that's the reason why it's absurd to request ISK Fest rewards back- you shouldn't ever be able to afford playing in prototype gear constantly in high sec space. |
